Instant NeRF mastermind and NeRF celebrity, Thomas Müller announced on his Linkedin VR functionality into Instant-NGP. This represents another leap forward in what's been an extremely exciting beginning to the year for NeRFs. Müller demonstrated one of the best use cases of NeRF, memory re-visitation. In order to add the functionality, head to the NV Labs Github!

Now that people are able to view NeRFs in VR, it will be up to their imagination on what to capture. To that point, NVIDIA AI also announced a new Instant-NeRF VR contest that is live as of January 31st through March 3rd, 2023. The winner will receive a NVIDIA 3090 ti graphics card, with its 24gb of VRAM is powerful enough to handle most NeRFs.

Shrinking 3DGS File Size

Gaussian Splatting has quickly become one of the most exciting research topics in Radiance Fields, thanks to its fast training, real time rendering rates, and easy to create pipeline. The one critique that emerged was the resulting file size from captures, often venturing into the high hundreds of megabytes and up.

A short 170 year history of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), Holograms, and Light Fields

Lightfield and hologram capture started with a big theoretical idea 115 years ago and we have struggled to make them viable ever since. Neural Radiance fields aka NeRF along with gaming computers now for the first time provide a promising easy and low cost way for everybody to capture and display lightfields.
