Neuralangelo named Top 200 invention of 2023 by Time Magazine

NVIDIA is back on the Time Magazine Top Inventions list in 2023, with Neuralangelo.

For those unfamiliar with Neuralangelo, it leverages the representation capabilities of multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs) to create an implicit function that can meaningfully interpolate between spatial locations, resulting in smooth and complete surface representations.

If you want to give it a try, NVIDIA also has a Google Colab for it.

This is the second year in a row that NVIDIA appears on the list for NeRFs. In 2022, Instant-NGP won.

“The scenes and objects it creates are compatible with popular, off-the-shelf design applications, so they can be edited and used in digital twins [or virtual replicas of real-world objects], robotics, game development, and more,”Ming-Yu LiuTweet

As a note, Ming-Yu is credited in the article as a Senior Director of Research at NVIDIA, but was recently named Vice President of Research at NVIDIA. Congrats, Ming-Yu! This also represents back to back awards for both Thomas Müller, who I had the honor of speaking alongside at SIGGRAPH, and Alex Evans. I can't imagine there are many people who have a winning streak for Time Magazine's best inventions.
